Wood History

Long Leaf Yellow Heart Pine

This 400-year-old wood was used as structural floor supports in the historic Chronicle Mill.  Since 1901, this wood has supported this local historic landmark, and today it has been transformed.

Wood Reclamation

Circa 2013 Belmont, NC

The mill was built in 1901, and we started the wood reclamation process over a century later.  Stephen salvaged some of the finest heart pine in the South.

New Life

Re-purposed History

With a little bit of creativity, the Millworks team has created a piece of "modern history" for you and your family to enjoy for years to come.

70 Million

Virgin Longleaf Pine covered nearly 70 million acres of the United States'  southeastern coastal plain.

500 years

Many of these trees reached heights of 175 feet, and took from 200 to 500 years to mature.

1 inch

An inch of old growth heart pine can have upwards of 30 rings. New growth pine has only 6 to 8 rings per inch.

3 Percent

Only 3% of the original Longleaf Heart Pine forests remain. They are now protected.

OUR STORY

THESE THINGS INSPIRE US

Once there was a tree and she loved a little boy.

And every day the boy would come and he would gather her leaves

and make them into crowns, and play king of the forest.

He would climb up her trunk, and swing from her branches and eat apples. And they would play hide-and-go-seek. And when he was tired,

he would sleep in her shade. And the boy loved the tree....very much.

And the tree was happy.

                                                      - The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein

Respect for all that a tree offers has always been our passion, and this is guiding principle in our business model. Reclaiming and bringing back to life the true natural beauty of a tree so that it is seen, felt, and loved again in a different light and form is what brings out the inner child in all of us.
